Mosaic Course – from 12 to 18 July – and – from 2 to 8 August –

The course will be held in the months of July and August 2021


In the evocative setting of the city par excellence linked to this ancient and noble art, you will experience the thrill of creating your own design with the colored tiles of Venetian enamels and noble marbles. The mosaic artist Carolina Zanelli, a teacher with many years of experience as a conductor of courses and mosaic masters in Italy and abroad, will guide you.

During the mosaic course there is a visit to the Basilica of San Marco or as an alternative to that of Torcello, a real journey through time, admiring the precious mosaics that adorn the interiors.

The course will take place at the Rigel hotel, located in the Lido of Venice, and includes 5 days of morning lessons and 1 afternoon dedicated to the scheduled visit, while you will be free during the remaining afternoons to visit the city on your own, enjoy the beach of the Lido or simply continue in the shade of the trees of the Rigel hotel garden to lay one tile after the other to give shape to your creativity, your mosaic.

Cost of the room: € 470 in a single room (arrival on Monday, departure on Sunday morning)

Cost of the course: € 460 with 6 days of lessons (24 hours) plus the possibility of working in the afternoon after the lesson time;

Teacher: Carolina Zanelli

Born in Udine, after the classical high school she graduated in cello at the Conservatory of Castelfranco Veneto (Tv), but then she changed direction and in 1995 she graduated as a mosaic teacher at the Mosaic School of Friuli in Spilimbergo (Pn). Since then she has lived mainly making and teaching mosaic in Italy and abroad. Starting from many years of experience as a teacher at the Mosaic School of Friuli, with which she still collaborates for the summer courses, she has specialized in the latter by collaborating with many institutions, holding courses from prisons to schools, at her own laboratory. Abroad she has taught courses or worked on various mosaic projects in Palestine, Holland, California, South Africa, annually in Chicago. You have participated in group exhibitions in Italy and abroad. A mosaic of her can be found in Sonia King’s book MOSAIC, Sterling, an interview with her in Vanity Fair magazine (April 2008). You collaborate with architects, private individuals and public bodies.


During the course the basic elements of mosaic techniques will be addressed:

  • the program is personalized and each student receives all the attention and instructions according to his level and needs
  • cutting and preparation of materials with the use of the traditional hammer
  • study of trends
  • composition of direct technique subjects proposed by teachers and participants
  • notions of mosaic history

The registration fee includes:

  • the use of equipment
  • the materials for the execution of the mosaics (the use of Venetian enamels and marble is foreseen; gold materials are excluded)
  • the issue of a certificate of attendance-insurance coverage
  • the ownership of the mosaics made
  • visit of a Venetian enamel manufacturer
  • individual accommodation in a hotel room
  • with buffet breakfast included (6 nights)
