29 march 1516: establishment in Venice of the first Jewish ghetto in the world

In 2016 we celebrate the 500th anniversary with extraordinary events across whole Venice. The opening night of March 29 will offer an Official Cerimony in The Fenice Opera House, organized in collaboration with UCEi, in the presence of international personalities, Jewish leaders, and famous artists.
This event will officially mark the quincentennial and will be used as the major platform for the dissemination of the messages of peace and dialogue connected to the anniversary.
The Committee for the 500 Years of the Ghetto and La Fenice have agreed to invite conductor Omer Wellber to lead the Fenice symphony orchestra. Program: Gustav Mahler, Symphony n. 1 in C Major.

More events would be organized on Venice Lido from april 6 up to may 15, like guided tours of the ancient Jewish cemetery, culinary workshops, and more interesting events about the Jewish ghetto.
