FESTA DELLA MADONNA DELLA SALUTE 21 NOVEMBER 2012

The celebration of Madonna della Salute is a Venetian religious festival that takes place on 21 November each year.

On that day there is a procession through the city, starting from the Basilica of Saint Mark, winding through the alleyways and crossing a votive bridge of boats across the Grand Canal until reaching the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, commemorating the terrible plague that scourged the city in 1630.

Although relatively unknown to tourists, this celebration is deeply rooted in the hearts of Venetians.
